"You can trace every sickness, every disease,
and every ailment to a mineral deficiency."
~ Dr. Linus Pauling, Ph.D.
This week, The Weekly Beet gets salty! Mary Kent praises the minerals of the sea, revealing why we could all use a sprinkle of salt in our life.
We can't live without it, yet some seem to think we can't live with it! These days, salt has us all so perplexed that it's time we got to the bottom of the sea's most important healing power. Unlike table salt, which is a highly refined version of Sodium and Chloride, sea salt comes to the table UNrefined, ready to give your body alot more than just a thirst for more! From Magnesium to Rubidium and even Strontium, sea salt kindly safeguards its more than 80 essential mineral and trace element content in each salt crystal. But, what most of us don't realize is that ordinary table salt, which reads on most labels as iodized salt, contains not just Sodium and Chloride, but also harmful additives such as Potassium-Iodide, which is added to salt to avoid Iodine deficiency in the thyroid gland, Sodium Ferrocyanide, sugar, which is added to stabilize the Iodine, and Aluminum silicate. With additives like these, it's no wonder we're all running around under some serious pressure!
Despite doctor's orders, every human body does indeed need the element of salt in their diet! The key is to simply find the right kind of salt, which will then heal alot more than just high blood pressure! Here's why we're sprinkling sea salt into our lives and why you should too:
- Salt is effective in stabilizing irregular heartbeat.
- Salt is essential for regulating blood pressure. This is contrary to what most of us have learned!
- Salt balances blood sugar levels. This is essential for diabetics!
- Salt helps with the absorption of food in the intestines.
- Salt assists in preventing muscle cramps, gout, varicose veins, and even arthritis.
- Salt is essential in making bones firm. Osteoporosis occurs from a lack of qood quality salt and water!
- Salt helps in regulating sleep and is great for insomnia.
- Salt can help relieve and clear up sinus troubles.
As table salt takes out the good and packages up the bad, sea salt keeps it all, which can been seen with it's thicker, slightly grey-colored, granulated crystals. The reason sea salt appears more grey than white is due to the harvesting of the sea salt. Since the healing goods are found at the bottom of the salt flat after the salt is evaporated by the sun, what's left to be bottled up as genuine sea salt is a mineral-rich, grey-ish brown crystal. But, what's found on top is what most of us are used to seeing our salt as: bright white salt crystals that contain less trace minerals. These salt crystals are also packaged as sea salt, but do not contain most of the precious elements found at the bottom.
So, even though a supermarket bought sea salt may read "sea salt" on its label, does not necessarily mean it is the true, unrefined product from the sea. So, buyers beware of this unnecessary trick! Our advice is to buy sea salt from a health food store and choose from brands like Celtic Sea Salt, Le Paludier or even our favorite Premier Pink Salt from Premier Research Labs. Since salt is such a vital element to the body, it just really isn't worth messing around with poor quality!
Sea, salt is good for you! Just sprinkle your life with the right kind! Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week.
