~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's Tea Time In London ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, The Beet took the Eurostar from Paris to London to scope out the health food scene in a city long renowned for its fried fish and chips. The minute we hopped off the Eurostar, we went directly to Fresh & Wild, our absolute favorite health food store in London. However, we were totally shocked to find that London has more than just one fabulous health food store. It seems the entire city is going organic. Click here to see more of our favorites!
Care for a spot of tea? We felt it appropriate to report on something ever so British, yet ever so organic all in effort to comply with The Beet's standard of excellence!! While the Queen was most likely sipping on a cup of Twinings tea, we were scouring the aisles of London's health food stores to find the "it" brand of organic tea. We found two that tied for first place! Dragonfly Teas and Pukka Herbal Teas are our absolute favorites!Both organic and both made with only the finest ingredients!
Dragonfly Tea has so many fabulous varities. We really love the naturally caffeine free
Rooibos teas. Our favorite flavor is Earl Grey. There is no chemical processing to remove the caffeine. It simply is naturally caffeine free. The website of Dragonfly Tea tells us that there is 138 mg of caffeine in a cup of coffee, 69 mg of caffeine in black tea, and absolutely no caffeine in a cup of Dragonfly's Rooibos teas. We love it like that! Click here to read more on the health benefits of Rooibos. We also love Cup-In-The-Sleeve Green Tea. We recommend a cup of green tea a day for weight loss, for added antioxidants, and for fabulous skin. There is a bit of caffeine in the green tea, but nothing compared to a cup of coffee. Dragonfly Wellness loves the teas so much they added a few varieties of Dragonfly Teas to their wellness kits. Must be something with the name! :)
Pukka Teas were really out of this world. The various flavors are Revitalising, Refreshing, Soothing, Clarity, Love, Detox, and Pleasure! Our favorite flavor is Love. On the side of the box of the Pukka Love Tea reads, "Love tea is a divine organic flower tea with a sweet taste of chamomile, rose, and lavender: Let the love flow." We found the tea to be calming and de-stressing. Pukka Teas contain no artificial flavors or sweeteners, no additives, no caffeine, no sugar, and no preservatives. We had a hard time finding the Pukka Love Tea, as it is the most popular of the teas. They were out of stock at Fresh & Wild and at Luscious Organic. But, they turned up at a health food store called Here, located at the Chelsea Farmers Market on Sydney Street. Bravo to Pukka for a tea well done!!
Now, what's a cup of tea without a cookie??? The English always eat a scone or a cookie(sometimes referred to as a biscuit by the Brits) with their cup of tea. So, we set out to find a healthy one, finding a brand called Heron Quality Foods. What we love about Heron's cookies is that they are gluten and wheat free! The Chocolate Caramel Crunches and the Organic Chocolate Chip Cookies are absolutely fantastic! These cookies blow Nestle's out of the water. Now, THAT is what we call UNBEETABLE!! You can find these at Fresh & Wild.
Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week as we head back to the U.S.A.
Cheers!
