~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mind Your Meditation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Our main purpose, our main aim in life is to live a happy, healthy, peaceful, easeful life. And we can do it; there's no doubt about it."
~Swami Satchidananda
"When the mind becomes calm, nothing is impossible. But, it's impossible to calm the mind unless it is clean. A clean mind could be calmed easily, so clean the mind. What makes the mind dirty? All the dirty thoughts.Because the mind is nothing but a bunch of thoughts. When the thoughts are clean, the mind is clean. When the thoughts are ugly with jealousy, hatred, or vengeance, it's a dirty mind that thinks and becomes those thoughts. And the dirty mind makes a dirty body. So everything that you think is transformed in the body."
~Swami Satchidananda
This week, The Weekly Beet reports on the importance of minding your meditation! That's right! The simple practice of quieting your mind will benefit you in more ways than you could ever imagine!
Meditation is the practice of quieting the mind and relaxing the body through the focus of the breath. There are so many ways in which to incorporate the practice of meditation into your daily routine. We have found that the easiest way for us is to listen to a meditational tape or CD. We are big fans of Swami Satchidananda's Deep Relaxation tapes! Swami Satchidananda, founder of Integral Yoga and Yogaville, is and was one of the most famous gurus of the twenty-first century. His tapes are the perfect meditation tool as his voice is so soothing that any mind will quickly learn to quiet down! Swami guides the over-active chatter of the mind to a place of inner peace and tranquility! Now, that's a place that we call unBEETable!! Word to the wise: Swami's voice is so amazing, but never listen to him while driving the car. Driving in a meditative state can be a bit dangerous! :)
Meditation can be done anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour every day. It really doesn't matter how long you meditate, just as long as you take time out of your day to give your mind a break. Also, there is no right or wrong way to meditate! Just relax, breathe, focus on your breath, and notice your thoughts without attaching to them! After lots of practice, you'll notice a difference in your reactions, your actions, and your thoughts. The things that worried and stressed you in the past, will simply not play such an important role anymore. So unBEETable and really quite incredible!!
