~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ YOGA-TTA TRY IT! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, The Weekly Beet reports on one of our favorite forms of exercise. If you haven't tried Yoga, we say YOGA-TTA try it right away! Why? Because it's totally unBEETable, of course.
One of the "it" exercises of the moment, Yoga, has caused quite a stir in cities all over the world. From New York to London to Paris, people of all ages are Down-Dogging and Oming like never before! Even Christy Turnlington created quite a gossip when she graced the cover of Time, as well as Vogue striking a Yoga pose. Yoga has become a serious trend that is definitely here to stay. Yoga, started over 5000 years ago in India, has vague beginnings. However, somewhere between 200 B.C. and 200 A.D., Patanjali, said to be the "father" of Yoga, documented the eightfold path to yoga in his Yoga Sutras. In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali discusses that Yoga is more than just a warrior or a cobra pose - it is a way of life that cultivates the mind, the body, and the spirit. Translated from the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, yoga literally means union. It is the union between mind, body, and spirit that a Yogi seeks.
New to Yoga? There are so many magazines specifically dedicated to Yoga that we are think are unBEETable! There's Yoga Journal, Yoga International, Ascent, and the most recent, Breathe. We are fans of all of them.
So, why do Yoga? Yoga has an incredible amount of health benefits. We could write pages and pages discussing how amazing it is for the body! We have been doing it for years and can testify that our mind is calmer, our back is straighter, and our muscles are harder. :) We recommend finding a style of yoga that best suits you, as there are quite a few. Hatha, Ashtanga, Bikram, Vinyasa, Integral, Anusara, and Iyengar are among the most popular.
Have fun yoga-cising! Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week!
Namaste,
Mary Kent
